FAQ
What makes this class different than our W.I.N. Sessions? The biggest difference is that Progress Sessions have an off-ice component as well as. During these off-ice practices, skaters will review videos with a coach for individual feedback. Skaters will also leave with sport specific drills and stretches they can practice at home.
Is this practice for Team Compulsory events? Dependent on skater interest & enrollment, we may begin choreographing Freestyle 1-4 Team Compulsories group programs during Progress Sessions.
Does my skater need to be a certain level to enroll? No, skaters of all levels are welcome! Skaters will be grouped based on their ISI test level so they can continue working on their technique.
Are adult skaters allowed to participate? At this time, we recommend adult skaters enroll in our Adult W.I.N. Sessions which take place on Sundays in Marlboro. Any adults wishing to skate during this ice time (Wed. 4:00-4:50 in Franklin) are encourage to register for Finesse Freestyle ice for independent practice.
What if my skater isn’t interested in competing as a soloist? Skaters who don’t want to compete as a soloist or in a duet can definitely join our Progress Sessions. All skaters will learn a program so they can focus on connecting the skills they need for their next test level. There’s no pressure to compete or perform the program they learn.
How long is the class? The on ice portion of Progress Sessions is 50-minutes (4:00-4:50pm), the off-ice portion is 30-minutes (5:00-5:30pm).
This is a short session, is it worth it to enroll? Due to hockey tournaments, our winter session in Franklin is limited to the dates above. We highly recommend skaters to enroll, if they're competing this season in solo/ partner events. If your skater wants to start learning our Team Compulsories group programs which Finesse be competing in April at the ISI East Coast Nationals & Synchro Championships, this is the perfect session to enroll.
What if my skater can’t stay for off-ice? We encourage all skaters to stay for off-ice if they can. This is an important portion of the class where they can review their performance (like watching game tape) to see where they can improve and where they are most successful. We find this helps skaters be less critical of themselves and feel supported by coaches and peers. However, if your skater is unable to stay during off-ice due to previous commitments, we'll make sure they receive feedback & a brief overview of drills they can practice on their own.
My skater takes private lessons, should they enroll in Progress Sessions? Yes, your skater will have three solid sessions of coaching prior to the Center Skating Academy Competition at the beginning of February. More time on the ice to practice is always better than less time, especially heading into competition. The coaching and feedback they receive during Progress Sessions will supplement the skills they learn during private lessons. Coaches will also help skaters improve their presentation, posture, and overall skating technique.
My skater is only available for a few dates. Should I still enroll them? We now have registration available for January only or February only dates. If you can’t make it to all four sessions, enroll in two sessions.
